Automate your Right to Work checks for all workers including subcontractors and self-employed staff.

Right to work checks for self-employed workers are in the spotlight following a government announcement on 31st March that it will extend mandatory 'right to work' checks to them. This move is aimed at curbing illegal employment, tax evasion and reducing the impact of the ‘gig economy’ to ensure all industries are treated the same and equally protected.

This new legislation sees a shift in employment verification processes making compliance a factor for all workers including self-employed subbies.

Previously employers have been required to verify the eligibility of their PAYE staff through right to work checks but not those considered self-employed. They have not been expected to undergo these compliance checks, creating the potential for exploitation and illegal employment.

Vyce already works with a number of clients in the construction sector to automate right-to-work verification and Vyce Teams integrates with HMRC to automatically check and confirm employees compliance and tax status.

This change, currently being reviewed by parliament, will have a huge impact on construction and will lead to administration delays, reductions in the numbers of skilled subbies available for major projects and could lead to severe penalties if compliance is not met, including fines of up to £60,000.
